Events - raising Fife’s profile on the local, national and international stage.
Events are an important part of the Fife economy and the provision of a varied and attractive calendar of well organised and promoted events can positively enhance the quality of life, impact on the local economy, promote civic pride and raise the profile of an area.
Fife Council and the Community Planning Partners have taken a pro-active role in developing a strategy that will benefit both the residents of, and visitors to, Fife. Fife's Events Strategy will work towards raising the quality of event provision and provide a co-ordinated approach to the support, funding and promotion of events in Fife.
Following the introduction of Fife's Events Strategy in 2005, developments to support the promotion and provision of events include:
- Additional £30,000 annual investment in the Community Events Grants Scheme.
- Introduced the Major Events Investment Programme to invest in enhancing existing major events and support the introduction of new events of national and international stature. Over £2m has been awarded to events which has attracted over £400,000 funding from EventScotland's National and International event funds.
- Since 2006 supported the development of 11 existing events such as StAnza: Scotland's International Poetry Festival and Pittenweem Arts Festival and supported the introduction of 29 new events such as the Fife Outdoor Access Festival and british Superbike Championship.
- Launched the Events in Fife publications featuring events from October - March, March - July and July - October. 120,000 copies are distributed throughout Fife and Scotland and are available from all Fife Council Local Area Offices, Libraries, Museums, Theatres and Tourist Information Centres or by free mailing service (This publication has been replaced by Celebrating Fife 2010 Programme edition January 2010 to July and July to December 2010. The Events in Fife publication will be available again from December 2010 covering events up to March 2011).
- Introduced the Event Organisers Packs to support event organisers deliver, safe, well run and well promoted events. The packs contain everything groups need to organise events and application forms to apply for funding and permission to hold an event in a public park. 1,500 packs have been distributed to all event organisers across Fife.
