Fife Council and its partners have secured funding for 238 new community based jobs as a result of their successful bid to the UK Government’s Future Jobs Fund. These jobs will be aimed at young people of 18–24 years.
This age group has been hit hard in the current economic climate and by helping this group Fife Council can avoid their long term slide into unemployment. The Future Jobs Fund is a government initiative aimed at creating real posts for youngsters who are long-term unemployed or who face significant disadvantage in the labour market.
Councillor Tony Martin, chair of enterprise, environment & transportation committee welcomed the announcement and said: “We are delighted to have secured this funding. Fife Council and its partners have been working hard with local employers to put this proposal together.
“This successful bid will provide important job opportunities for local young people in Fife which will have an impact directly on our local communities.”
The posts created by the Future Jobs Fund must be additional and have some form of community benefit. As many Council activities fall within the community benefit criteria, they can provide valuable employment opportunities to benefit the overall experience of young Fife unemployed people while enhancing current Council commitments.
Councillor Martin added: “Fife Council as the largest employer in the area and as lead strategic employability partner we have an important role to play in maximising opportunities arising from the Future Jobs Fund. All Future Jobs Fund employees will be fully supported throughout their time with the Council ensuring a high quality experience with regular review of progress to maximise their chances of gaining and sustaining a job.”
The bid was led by Fife Council in partnership with Fife’s colleges, voluntary organisations, NHS Fife and social enterprises.
