Light Fife Green - Street Lighting Policy Review

Fife Council

Purpose of consultation

Fife Council Transportation Services has the responsibility of managing and maintaining more than 60,000 street lights throughout Fife.

Street Lighting is important to community safety and the quality of life of Fife’s residents.

However, Fife’s street lighting burns from dusk to dawn and generates a massive 10% of the Council’s carbon footprint.  We aim to be a leading Green Council and reduce CO² emissions by 80% by 2050.

This Street Lighting Review will look at present and past practices, new technology and include trials of new street lighting equipment.

We would like you to hear your feedback about the new variable lighting to be trialled in a number of different locations across Fife.

This will assist us in developing a future lighting policy which will in turn help to set future energy targets for street lighting.
